Melvin Jones was the "Founding Father" of Lionism.   Thus, Lions Clubs select members to become Melvin Jones Fellows due to their outstanding contributions to Lionism.   Clubs send a donation of $1,000 to Lions Clubs International (LCIF) which is used to help with worldwide service projects.    Being chosen as a Melvin Jones Fellow is the "highest honor" that the regular Lion can receive.
